TRANSFERRABLE SKILLS ANALYSIS
The Transferrable Skills Analysis (TSA) is an effective tool used in Return to Work & Career Counselling/Planning. TSAs are defined as a systematic process of identifying an individual’s existing work abilities, skills, traits, & aptitudes through a detailed analysis of their demonstrated vocational history, hobbies, recreational & volunteer activities & education/training. It uses the National Occupational Classification (NOC) Handbook and Occupational and Skills Information System (OaSIS) to identify occupations that may be suitable based on limitations, health conditions, etc. based on your existing skills, education and experience.
This assessment is best suited for individuals who cannot return to their current job or looking for a change of career. It is beneficial to have some work experience as the assessment uses data from your previous occupations. It develops a list of possible transferable occupations which utilize the skills and education you currently have while being tailored to your accommodation needs, health profile, work characteristics and more.
This assessment uses composite information from someone’s current work experience, education and volunteer history. It does not administer any academic, aptitude or interest testing.
STRONG INTEREST INVENTORY
The Strong Interest Inventory™ is an interest inventory used in career planning. The goal of this assessment is to give insight into a person's interests, so that they may have less difficulty in deciding on an appropriate career choice for themselves. It is also frequently used for educational guidance as one of the most popular career assessment tools. The test was developed in 1927 by psychologist Edward Kellog Strong Jr. to help people exiting the military find suitable jobs. It was revised later by Jo-Ida Hansen and David P. Campbell. The modern version of 2004 is based on the Holland Codes typology of psychologist John L. Holland. The Strong is designed for high school students (16+), college students, and adults.
The Strong assessment can be a valuable tool in helping you identify your interests, enabling you to:
Achieve satisfaction in your work
Identify career options consistent with your interests Choose education and training relevant to your interests Maintain balance between your work and leisure activities
Understand aspects of your personality most closely associated with your interests
Determine your preferred learning environments
Decide on a focus for the future
Learn about your preferences for leadership, risk-taking, and teamwork
Direct your own career exploration at various stages in your life
This Inventory is useful for anyone wanting to gain further insight into their personality, values and interests as they relate to work. However, it does not take into consideration any work experience, education or test for any aptitudes. It also does not consider any other extenuating factors or suitability when proposing occupations. Can be very beneficial for students or those curious about possible career paths or academic majors.
